Medical Device

A major medical device manufacturer needed syringes, coming at very high speeds from a horizontal form fill and seal machine, flipped and nested into a corrugated case. The packages needed to be verified that they were placed correctly in the box with 100% confidence and then the corrugated boxes were to be closed and labeled.

We provided a servo driven pick arm that accepts the packages from the form fill and seal machine prior to the cutting. The packages are then handed off from the pick arm to the servo driven flip arms to invert the packages. Next the packages are stacked into the corrugated cases using robotics to pick and place the packages in groups. The packages are verified and cleared to go from the pick point to the place point using sensors mounted inside the end-of-arm-tooling (EOAT) of the robot. The corrugated boxes exit the system and are sent to a case closer using tape as the method of closure. Then a print and apply labeler was integrated to the line for monitoring of low labels, no labels, low ribbon, and other errors. Finally an accumulation buffer was created by use of a conveyor and back pressure.

Benefits of the Fargo System:

The system was integrated with the rest of the line using all AB controls.
The runtime of the system was very high and is operated on a 24/7 operation.
The system is compact and meets all specifications on the URS requirements.
