Electronics

A large OEM of off road electronics needed a system to attach connectors on a circuit board, verify the bar code of the board being processed and the connector match, attach the connector to the circuit board with screws, and accept trays of connectors as well as buffer the connectors for increased production. The line must use IPC-SMEMA-9851 mechanical and communication standards for electronics manufacturing, replace the PC based controls with an AB controlled system and operate at twice the speed of the current system being replaced.

Our system read the bar code and sent the info to the PLC for verification to the recipe selected on the HMI. The connector was picked from a standard shipping tray using a SCARA robot. Next the connector being processed was checked by sensors on the EOAT to match the recipe selected on the HMI. An automated screw driver was carried by the SCARA robot to the points of application of the connector to the board. In addition a tray buffer system was used to store 15-30 minutes worth of connectors before operator intervention was required. Finally, the integration of this system with the rest of the line was accomplished by use of an AB control system and standard connectors. The speed of the system allowed it to process twice as many boards as the existing system.

Benefits of the Fargo System:

The customer was given every item requested in the URS to meet their production needs.
The system was compact and met the higher speeds of the existing system being replaced.
A first system was purchased and then a second was purchased a year later.
The system operates at very high efficiencies and operates on a 24/5 schedule.
